PACE urged the Russian Federation to release Amet Suleymanov

September 6, 2023

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe called on the Russian authorities to release the Crimean political prisoner Amet Suleymanov. This was reported in a corresponding statement on the PACE website.

“Amet Suleymanov suffers from a number of ailments, including a serious heart problem. Although at first he was under house arrest, in April 2023 he was transferred to a pre-trial detention center. We are very concerned that Mr. Suleymanov’s life is in danger following reports that he is being transferred to a prison in a remote part of Russia and that he has been denied access to important medical materials”,- the statement said.

The Russian Federation also called for the decision to transfer Suleymanov from house arrest to prison to be reversed, providing him with access to appropriate medicines and medical care, and to ensure his immediate release.

We remind you that civilian journalist Amet Suleymanov was arrested on April 6.

On April 26, 2023, the necessary medicines were taken away from him, despite the fact that the doctors prescribed him a heart valve replacement surgery and prescribed all the necessary medicines with their own hands.

On August 29, 2023, it became known that, despite health problems, Amet Suleymanov was illegally transferred to a prison in Russia.
