Occupiers kidnapped 361 people in the newly occupied territories of Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions – CTRC

July 30, 2024
The Crimean Tatar Resource Centre has been systematically monitoring human rights violations in the occupied Crimea since the beginning of its activities, and since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, we have started to do so in the newly occupied territories of Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions. We provide quarterly analyses of human rights violations in these territories.

So, during the period of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war in the newly occupied territories of Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions at least 361 people were abducted, 101 of whom were representatives of the Crimean Tatar people.

Thanks to a timely response, the CTRC learnt about the fate of about 80 people who had been abducted in these territories. Some of them were either released or placed in Russian places of detention.

It should be emphasized that in the newly occupied territories of Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions, the Russians are not governed by any legislation and openly commit war crimes, among them forced abductions, illegal home invasions, torture and murder.
