In May, schools in temporarily occupied Crimea will play Soviet military songs, in particular “Cossacks in Berlin”, ‘Katyusha’ and “Smuglyanka”, instead of traditional bells. This is reported by Russian propaganda media.
A similar action is planned to be held in educational institutions on the territory of Russia. The organizers say that they want to make the history “closer and clearer” for children.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center strongly condemns such actions of the occupation administration, which are another manifestation of imposing imperial narratives and militarization of children. Such methods are aimed at distorting historical memory and forming children’s loyalty to the aggressor.
