The occupation Kyiv district ‘court’ has completed consideration of the appeal of the representative of the independent Crimean Tatar newspaper ‘Qırım’ Seyran Ibragimov. Judge Vera Serikova left the complaint without satisfaction, and the fine of 250 thousand rubles imposed by the magistrate’s court – without changes. This was reported on the official website ‘Crimean Process’.
On 2 October, a similar decision was made with regard to the editor of the publication Bekir Mamut, who was fined 130 thousand rubles. He is accused of ‘abuse of freedom of information’ because of the publication of the report of UN Secretary General António Guterres, which spoke about torture and abductions in Crimean detention centres. ‘The court’ recognised the report as unreliable, based on data from the local Interior Ministry.
This is not the first case of persecution of the editorial board of ‘Qırım’ . In 2021, the editor was already fined for similar accusations, and this year searches took place in Ibragimov’s house and in the office of the editorial board.
