Monument to Russian Empress Maria Alexandrovna unveiled in Livadia

September 30, 2024

In Crimea, in the village of Livadia, a monument to Empress Maria Alexandrovna of Russian origin was unveiled in honour of the 200th anniversary of her birth. This was reported by Russian media.

The monument was unveiled by the Elizabeth and Sergius Educational Society. It was installed next to the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which was built with the participation of the Empress.

The CTRC emphasises that these measures are part of a systematic propaganda campaign aimed at changing the cultural and historical identity of the population of the occupied Crimea. The Russian authorities are trying to implement their narratives by promoting the rewriting of history, controlling local infrastructure, and influencing young people through educational and cultural programmes.

An important goal of this propaganda campaign is to create a sense of belonging to Russian history and culture among the population of the occupied territories.
