On Sunday, April 20, the Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev together with the Chairman of the Mejlis Refat Chubarov and member of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues Suleiman Mamutov held a meeting with the local diaspora activists at the building of the Association of Crimean Tatars in the United States in New York.
According to the Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, during the event the issues of the situation and preservation of the identity of Crimean Tatars in the United States were discussed, as well as the necessity to intensify the information campaign of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and the Crimean Tatar Resource Center. The attendees were shown a short film “Bring me back my dad” about the children of Crimean political prisoners and a video “Help the prisoners of the Kremlin” prepared by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.
“ We told about the necessity to activate the information campaign of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and the Crimean Tatar Resource Center ‘Atalik’ (”Godfather“), in the framework of which we called to attract politicians and famous figures to take under their guardianship political prisoners”, – said the Chairman of the Board of the CTRC.
Separately, during the meeting they discussed the issues of the advocacy campaign to recognize the deportation of Crimean Tatars as an act of genocide in the world, in particular in the United States. Diaspora representatives were given information materials in English – sets of postcards “Deportation 1944” and “The Future of Crimea” and analytical materials “International Crimea Platform: Achievements, Challenges and Perspectives of Institutionalization” and “The Future of Crimea: Legal Provision and Recommendations to Strategies” developed by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.
