On Thursday, October 3, in Warsaw, Eskender Bariiev, Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, and Liudmyla Korotkikh, lawyer of the CTRC, held a working meeting with Tara Fichter, Head of the Eurasia Program at the Lawyers for Lawyers organization Tara Fichter.
“Lawyers for Lawyers” is an independent non-political foundation that aims to support lawyers who are persecuted for their professional activities around the world.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the areas of cooperation on the protection of Crimean lawyers and human rights defenders who are under threat because of their activities in the occupied Crimea.
Tara Fichter noted that she, together with a team of Dutch lawyers, is working on a research report on the situation of Crimean lawyers providing legal aid on the peninsula and needing international support.
The parties also discussed the possibility of organizing joint events aimed at protecting the rights of lawyers and human rights defenders in Crimea, as well as preparing for future joint activities.
