“The status of a conscript in Crimea does not guarantee that a serviceman will not end up in a trench” – Bariiev

The head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev said in an interview with “Krym.Realii” that there were “many cases” when in the occupied Crimea they issue summonses to those who came to the courthouse to support their compatriots, as well as during the searches.

“I think they are trying to scare people with subpoenas, so that they would be less active and not participate in any actions and campaigns as much as possible,” Bariiev said.

The expert said that the status of a conscript in Crimea does not guarantee that a serviceman will not end up in a trench.

“On the one hand, they promise that conscripts will be and stay in Crimea, but there is information that they are sent anyway. If not directly to the front, then to the border territories with Ukraine. They do not mean the official borders, but the contact lines. The conscripts still perform work in military units, at military facilities… it is dangerous to be in these military units,” – Eskender Bariiev said.

In addition to mobilization and conscription, the Russian authorities actively use propaganda to attract to the ranks of the Russian army, hoping for contract workers. Mobile brigades are working in Crimea to provide on-site advice on military service. Eskender Bariiev says that people are lured by the material benefits of serving in the ranks of the Russian army.

“The last figure they mentioned to me was 193,000-195,000 rubles. Further, they promise that there will be additional opportunities for contract workers to get land plots,” – Bariiev said.

According to his information, mobile mobilization stations “are found in a number of settlements, micro-districts, including in places of compact residence of Crimean Tatars”.
