Since the beginning of the occupation of Crimea, the Russians began to rename settlements and streets – Bariiev

January 31, 2023

The Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Eskender Bariiev, told Ukrainian Radio in an interview that the occupiers in Crimea began actively renaming settlements and streets.

“Pay attention, since the beginning of the occupation of Crimea, they began, in particular, to rename populated areas and streets: in honor of criminals and terrorists who killed people in Ukraine. They began to rewrite historiography, to close Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar schools, that is, to erase as much as possible everything that reminds of Ukrainian or Crimean Tatar identity”,- he explained.

We remind you that on January 27, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People launched an information and advocacy campaign – We will return the names – we will return Crimea, in the framework of which they talk about the importance of returning historical toponyms in Crimea.
