On Monday, June 26, the Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian flags were hoisted on the flagstaffs of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people in Kiev. The solemn event is dedicated to the Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag, which is celebrated on June 26 since 2010.
The event was attended by the Head and members of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, as well as activists and youth. Flags were raised by small children in national costumes. Participants performed hymns of the Crimean Tatar people and Ukraine.
After raising the flags, the Head of the Mejlis Refat Chubarov congratulated all those present on the flag day. Children, in their turn, told poems in their native language, dedicated to the national flag.
The flag was adopted by the Kurultay (national congress) of the Crimean Tatars in 1917 for the first time, after the February revolution in Russia. On June 30, 1991, the newly convened Kurultay, re-adopted this flag as a national one. The day of the Crimean Tatar flag is celebrated since 2010.
