August 19, 2022

On Friday, August 19, an expert discussion was held in Kyiv: Cessation of the illegal Russian annexation of Crimea and de-occupation of the peninsula: optimal ways and mechanisms.

Speakers were:

Eskender Bariiev – member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center

Refat Chubarov – Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people

Maria Tomak – Head of the Crimean Platform Support Service

Valerii Chalyy – Head of the Board of UCMC, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine

During the event, the participants discussed the following issues:

1. What should be the strategy for ending the Russian annexation of the ARC and the de-occupation of the Crimean peninsula?

2. The main factors of external and internal influence on the mechanisms and rates of de-occupation of Crimea. The role of the Crimean Platform.

3. How will Crimea develop from the moment when Ukrainian sovereignty over the peninsula is fully restored?

4. The role of indigenous peoples in the de-occupation and reintegration of the peninsula.

Eskender Bariiev, Head of the Board of the CTRC, in his speech stressed that it is necessary to continue to work systematically with the Ukrainian society and inform it about the situation in the occupied Crimea.

“We are constantly involving the Ukrainian society in the struggle for the return of Crimea by various creative methods. I'm talking about videos, social media storms, board campaigns, tests. We do all this so that all residents of Ukraine know about Crimea, indigenous peoples, their culture and history”, – he explained.

Bariiev believes that active information work should also be carried out with citizens of the countries participating in the Crimean platform.

“Despite the fact that the leaders of these states support Ukraine, Russia conducts constant propaganda work. Therefore, we systematically carry out various actions so that the citizens of these countries understand the real situation, because in democratic countries the opinion of political leaders depends on the opinion of the people. This is very important, because without the support of the allies we will not be able to win”,- the expert added.
