In addition to resolutions, there must be sanctions – Parkhomenko

By the end of the year, Ukraine will submit to the UN updated resolutions on the occupation of Crimea. Expert of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, director of the Nykonorov OPAD Center for Foreign Policy Studies of the Serhiii Parkhomenko on the air of the ATR TV channel noted that one resolution would definitely not be enough.

Parkhomenko stressed that in the new UN resolution on the situation with human rights violations in Crimea, the names of Dzhelyalov, the Akhtemov brothers, and possibly someone else from the Crimean people who received long prison sentences, may appear.

“But one resolution will definitely not be enough. In addition to declarative steps, there should be practical ones. And the most effective among them are the sanctions against the Russian Federation. It is necessary to use the mechanism of the Crimean Platform to develop joint practical steps, and not just declarative efforts”,- he explained.

The expert noted that Ukraine should definitely strengthen its diplomatic work. According to Serhiii Parkhomenko, it was necessary to throw all efforts to achieve non-recognition of the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation as a whole. However, Ukrainian diplomats did not fulfill this task.

“So far, unfortunately, we see many shortcomings in the work of the Foreign Ministry. It is also a pity that in our country the functions of state institutions are still replaced by non-governmental organizations, which sometimes perform their tasks more efficiently than official authorities – like, for example, volunteers in 2014. If they cannot fulfill their functions yet, then let them invite those experts from the non-governmental sector who have enough professional skills and desire”,- he said.
