Head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, head of the department of legal and foreign affairs of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev in an interview with the ATR TV channel said that the world is at that stage of a transitional period when a serious reset of the UN is needed, and, possibly, the creation of a new structure.
The Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center on the air of the TV channel spoke about the side event Threats to Sustainable Development of Indigenous Peoples in Conditions of Interstate Conflicts on the Example of the Russia-Occupied Crimea, as well as other speeches at the 20th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
“We very often hear from our compatriots, “What's the point that you speak there at various venues, talk about the situation if the Russian Federation does not fulfill UN resolutions and documents.” In fact, not everything is so easy. The UN is in the format thar we have, first of all, it is an agreement between the Western world and the Soviet Union, and the Russian Federation is the successor of the latter”,- he said.
Bariiev noted that today, indeed, the UN cannot resolve a number of serious problems, and now the world is at that stage of a transition when a serious reset of the UN is needed and, possibly, the creation of a new structure.
But speaking about the result of work on international platforms, the expert emphasized that since the beginning of the occupation, “we have achieved at least the fact that most of the countries support Ukraine.”
