On Thursday, April 30 the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Ukraine and Belarus held the XII session of the Crimean Discussion Club. In the frame of the XII session on the topic “Marine dimension of the occupation of Crimea” experts developed recommendations for Ukrainian authorities which will be sent to the relevant government bodies.
Speakers at the webinar were:
– Eskender Bariiev – Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people (moderator);
– Irina Starovitska, Project Manager of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Ukraine and Belarus(welcoming remarks);
– Andriy Ryzhenko – Captain of the 1-st rank;
– Bogdan Ustimenko – international lawyer;
– Maxim Slyusarevsky – Head of the Federation of Maritime Trade Unions of Ukraine;
– Borys Babin – Doctor of Law, Professor, expert of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.
The participants discussed the following issues:
1. Crimea as the naval base of the aggressor
2. Occupation of Crimea and Ukraine's maritime blockade
3. Occupation of Crimea as a threat to the maritime economy
4. Attempted annexation of Crimea and challenges to the marine environment
In the frame of the webinar experts developed recommendations for Ukrainian authorities which will be sent to the relevant government bodies. They will also be published on the CTRC website.
