Today, June 20, a letter from Leniie Umerova was published, where she comments on her own illegal arrest. The letter was posted by Umerova’s brother, Aziz Umerov, on his Facebook page.
The letter is dated May 30 this year.
“Six months ago, I went to my parents in Crimea to visit and support. I traveled with peace and pure intentions. Haven’t been able to get there. For the past six months, the devil knows what has been happening”,- she writes in a letter.
In addition, it is reported that Leniie was deprived of the opportunity to write in Ukrainian or Crimean Tatar.
“I believe in justice and that sooner or later any arbitrariness will end! And this will also finish!”,- Umerova concludes.
We remind you that on December 4, 2022, Russian security forces detained Leniie Umerova after crossing the Georgian-Russian border, allegedly for violating the rules of the regime zone. The girl was traveling from Kyiv to the occupied Crimea due to the deterioration of her father’s condition. Until March 16, Leniie was held in a temporary detention center for foreign citizens near Vladikavkaz. The invaders found the girl guilty of violating the regime of the state border (part 1 of article 18 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation) and fined her 2,000 rubles.
On the night of March 16, 2023, Leniie Umerova was released, but they grabbed her, put a bag over her head, brought her to an unfamiliar district of Vladikavkaz and left her there. The girl was again detained and a protocol was drawn up against her for disobedience to the police. She was assigned 15 days of administrative arrest. Subsequently, this was repeated three times.
On May 5, the Lefortovo Court in Moscow arrested Crimean Tatar Leniie Umerova for 2 months on suspicion of high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
