Ukrainian singer of Crimean Tatar origin Jamala has released a new music video for an ancient religious folk song ‘ARAFAT DAĞINDAN’ from the town of Akmesjit (Simferopol). This song is one of the few that are dedicated to religion. The singer reported on her Facebook page.
‘Memories are all we have left. Memory of people, things, places that made us happy. A confession to ourselves, a story, a prayer or a mantra,’ Jamala commented.
While working on the music video, Jamala recalled the day her great-grandmother Nazilkhan died.
‘She woke up and asked my mum, ‘What day is today? ‘Bugun juma (today is Friday). Today I will die.’ She asked my mum to make her ifahash and ate the whole portion. Then she called a neighbour, together they recited a prayer, and after that great-grandmother died,’ – Jamala shared. The singer emphasised that she is very proud of this song and clip.
We would like to remind, the occupation authorities of Crimea on 5 July this year took away the house of the Ukrainian singer Jamala. They plan to build a sanatorium in its place.
