Iryna Danylovych continues to suffer from a serious illness in a Russian prison

August 19, 2024

Crimean civic journalist  Iryna Danylovych   is not provided with the necessary assistance she needs due to her serious illness. This is reported by ‘Krym.Realii’ with reference to the comment of her sister Olga.

Failure to provide adequate medical care during detention contravenes the ‘Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners 1955’, known as the Nelson Mandela Rules, and is a violation of the prohibition of inhuman and degrading treatment, as well as her right to personal inviolability and health.

Iryna Danilović’s serious health condition was repeatedly reported by her relatives. From 22 March to 6 April, in protest against the arbitrary actions of the occupation authorities, she went on a ‘dry hunger strike’, refusing water and food.

We remind you that  Iryna Danylovych  was subjected to enforced disappearance in Russian-occupied Crimea on 29 April 2022. For 13 days her whereabouts were unknown. Information about her stay in Simferopol pre-trial detention centre appeared only on 11 May 2022. She was detained on trumped-up charges of manufacturing explosives. On 28 December 2022, Feodosia occupation ‘court’ sentenced  Iryna to 7 years in prison.
