International scientific and practical symposium: ‘’The Deportation of the Crimean Tatar People and the Occupation of Crimea: Legal and Humanitarian Aspects‘’

On Tuesday, 3 December 2024, an international scientific and practical symposium will be held in Kyiv: ‘The Deportation of the Crimean Tatar People and the Occupation of Crimea: Legal and Humanitarian Aspects’ dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people and Human Rights Day.

Scholars, educators, human rights activists, civil servants, journalists, public figures and other interested persons are invited to participate in the event.

The symposium will include the following panels:

1. The deportation of the Crimean Tatar people as an act of genocide and a deliberate long-term crime against humanity.

2. The violation of the rights of indigenous peoples: challenges of history and the present.

3. Politics and law in terms of deoccupation and reintegration of temporarily occupied territories.

4. Cultural heritage and identity of the Crimea: losses and threats in the conditions

of occupation.

5. The role of libraries, museums, archives, educational institutions: working with national memory and traumas during the years of war.

6. The influence of information warfare on ethnopolitics in the post-truth era.

7. Foreign experience of deoccupation and reintegration.

Please note: The specified materials must be submitted by 28 November 2024.

When sending materials by e-mail, the subject line of the message must contain the name and surname of the participant with the obligatory indication ‘for the symposium’.

Based on the results of the international scientific and practical symposium, it is planned to publish a digital electronic book of abstracts. It will be sent to the e- mail addresses of the participants and posted on the website of Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University.

The symposium will be held in a mixed format, with online/offline presentations.
