In the first half of 2024, 71 detentions were recorded in occupied Crimea – CTRC

In the first half of 2024, 71 detentions were recorded, 21 in relation to Crimean Tatars. For the same period in 2023, 101 (66) were recorded, and in 2022 – 79 (68).

Crimeans were detained:

– In the case of ‘Hizb ut-Tahrir’ (10)

– In the case of ‘Battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan’ (2)

– Under part 2 of article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (‘Extortion on a large scale’) (1)

– Under article 222.1, part 1, of the Criminal Code (‘Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transport, forwarding or carrying of explosives or explosive devices’) (8)

– Under article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences (‘Incitement to hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity’) (1)

– Under article 13.15, part 9, of the Code of Administrative Offences (‘Abuse of freedom of mass information’) (2)

– Under article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences (‘Propaganda or public display of the attributes or symbols of extremist organisations’) (1)

– Under article 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation (‘Illegal missionary activity’) (1)

– Under article 280.3 of the Criminal Code (‘Public actions aimed at discrediting the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation’) (13)

We shall remind you that earlier the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre presented the Analysis of human rights violations in the occupied Crimea for the first half of 2024. According to the organisation, 51 searches, 71 arrests/detentions and 63 cases of interrogations, interviews and ‘conversations’ were recorded during the reporting period. The total number of arrests for the first half of 2024 is 92.
