In Melitopol, the occupants returned the Soviet names to the streets

January 31, 2023

At the initiative of the Russian official Halyna Danylchenko, a decision was made to return the streets of Melitopol former historical names.

According to the Crimea.Realities, according to the official, then many streets were named after Ukrainian Nazi ideologists.

The list of geographical objects published by her to be renamed includes the streets of the Soviet film director Grigory Chukhrai and the Soviet artist Alexander Tishler, who were born in Melitopol (now they will again be Artem and Kotovsky streets), the streets of the father of Soviet cosmonautics (it will be renamed Kuibyshev Street), Prince Yaroslav the Wise (it will become Rosa Luxembourg Street), film director Alexander Dovzhenko (it will return the name of the theorist of Marxism, the German Karl Liebknecht). Even Yalta street and Crimea street lane were renamed.

Halyna Danylchenko, who calls herself the head of the military-civilian administration, said that the decision was made in connection with numerous appeals from citizens and with the aim of restoring historical justice, and mentioned the previous wave of renaming in the city, announced by the Ukrainian authorities as part of decommunization.

Thus, the occupants are trying to destroy Ukrainian history.

We remind you that on January 27, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people launched an information and advocacy campaign – “We will return the names – we will return Crimea”, within the framework of which they talk about the importance of returning historical toponyms in Crimea.
