The walls of the Tower of Giovanni di Scaffa of the XIV century are partially destroyed, there are numerous cracks. The Russian administration of the city does not take any measures.
The Tower of Consul Giovanni di Scaffa or the Round Tower is the ruins of one of the four towers of the outer defense ring of Kafa that have survived in Feodosiia to this day, which included more than 30 towers. The round tower was built simultaneously with the citadel of the fortress – in 1342, and before the construction of the outer defensive wall it stood separately, 400 meters from the citadel.
The tower is three-tiered, round in plan, the inner diameter is 22 meters, the wall thickness is 2 meters. The narrow gate leading to the tower was punched in the wall at an oblique angle, which made it much more difficult for the attackers to storm the tower.
Who is Giovanni di Scaffa and why the tower got his name, historians find it difficult to say with accuracy. One of the versions says that during the construction of the tower in the Cafe, the Genoese consul Giovanni di Scaffa ruled (this is indicated by the inscription on the foundation plate).
