In Crimea, the historical names of cities and towns in the Crimean Tatar language will be returned. The Ministry of Reintegration reports this.
This decision is being prepared in pursuance of the Law on the condemnation and prohibition of propaganda of Russian imperial policies in Ukraine and the decolonization of toponymy. Agreement is underway on mechanisms by which they will be able to write toponyms using the Crimean Tatar alphabet based on Latin script. For this purpose, communications are carried out with operators of map services and services that maintain such signs.
Based on the results of the meeting, the National Commission instructed to develop an appropriate decision of the Government, therefore, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Reintegration, the Permanent Representation of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People and the Institute of National Remembrance will work on this issue.
We remind you that the Crimean Tatar Resource Center launched an information campaign “By returning the names we will return Crimea” back in January 2022, aimed at restoring the historical toponyms of the peninsula.
