FSIN employees forcibly shaved Tymur Yalkabov

November 29, 2023

FSIN employees forcibly shaved Crimean Tatar, political prisoner Tymur Yalkabov. His wife Aliie Yalkabova reported this to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.

“On the 24th, the wife of my husband’s cellmate told me that he was forcibly shaved bald, although he repeatedly went down to the room where they have a hairdresser, and this room was always closed”,- she said.

It is known that after this they wanted to force Yalkabov to wash his hair in a sink under cold water, but he refused because he suffers from asthma, which is why he is prohibited from anything related to cold.

“They then allowed him to take a shower without soap and a towel. It’s very cold there now, plus he put things on his wet body and walked around in wet clothes – I can’t imagine how he is feeling with his asthma”,- added Aliie.

On Monday she sent her husband a letter that he should have received, but there was no response.

“I sent him a letter, there was no answer, no message that he received it. He doesn’t answer me to this day, I don’t know what’s wrong with him and how he’s doing”,- she explains.

There were no other reports of abuse, but the couple also had no contact.

“I wrote a statement to the Federal Penitentiary Service, to the prosecutor’s office, to an NGO – wherever possible, I sent a statement so that they would come with an inspection. We’ll wait”,- the wife noted.

We remind you that on February 17, Russian security forces conducted seven searches in the homes of Crimean Tatars in Bilohirsk, Bakhchysarai, Simferopol, Sevastopol and the Sovietskyy district of the occupied Crimea. The detainees are charged with article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The Kyiv District Court and the Lenin District Court chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention for the detained Crimean Tatars – Ernest Ibrahimov, Tymur Yalkabov, Azamat Eiupov, Oleh Fedorov, Lenur Seidametov and Yashar Shykhametov.

On March 22, 2022, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don announced the verdict to Tymur Yalkabov. He was sentenced to 17 years in prison, with the first 4 years to be served in prison.
