The FSB office and the FSB Department in Akmesdzhit (Simferopol) refused to comment on the detention of 70-year-old Zodie Saliieva, a veteran of the Crimean Tatar national movement and mother of a political prisoner Seyran Saliiev. This is reported by ‘Crimean Solidarity’ public association.
In the morning of 29 August, FSB operatives came to Zodie’s flat to conduct a search in her flat. One of them entered the flat, where he talked to Saliieva for half an hour, three were in the car. The law enforcers were unable to conduct the search because of the wrong flat number in the decision.
However, they took the woman anyway, confiscated her phone and said they would hold a ‘certain conversation’ after which she would return home.
‘I hugged her and felt a shiver as she hugged me tightly with her arms. As far as I could, I gave her primary legal aid. Calmed her down because mentally she was confused. This is typical of people who have repeatedly experienced searches and harassment by law enforcement agencies in their homes,’ – said Mumine Saliieva.
Later, the daughter-in-law reached the department, where the duty officer replied that her mother-in-law had not been brought here.
‘When asked by a lawyer outside the FSB building in Simferopol, the duty officer also said that it was necessary to write a statement and wait for 30 days,’ – said Mumine Saliieva.
According to Mumine Saliieva, because of the detention of her mother-in-law, she was unable to attend a parent-teacher meeting before the new school year and hospitalise her 13-year-old daughter.
