On Tuesday, 8 October, a meeting of the Public Council under the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience was held.
The meeting was attended by Viлtor Yelenskyш, Chairman of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience, Eskender Bariiev, Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Chairman of the Public Council under the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience , heads and representatives of structural subdivisions of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience.
Within the framework of this meeting were:
- Discussed amendments to the Law of Ukraine ‘On the lease of state and communal property’ on the use of such property by public associations of national minorities and representative bodies of indigenous peoples. During the discussion, they agreed to introduce amendments to the law, in particular regarding the lease, and decided to initiate their further consideration. They also agreed to further discuss the by-laws together with the public council after the adoption of the amendments.
- The draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on amendments to the list of budget grant providers was considered. It is proposed that the SSEPFC should provide financial support on a competitive basis for organisations of national minorities and representative bodies of indigenous peoples. For this purpose it is necessary to make amendments to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, providing for granting the relevant status of a budget grant provider.
- The Public Council was informed by the Chairman of SSEPFC about the beginning of implementation of the Law of Ukraine ‘On Protection of the Constitutional Order in the sphere of activity of religious organisations’. The Chairman of the SSEPFC spoke about the development of bylaws for the implementation of this law. He noted the challenges associated with foreign influence on religious organisations in Ukraine and noted that the law is aimed at ensuring legal regulation of these processes in accordance with international law and legislation of Ukraine.
