Eskender Bariiev attended the opening of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom’s Human Rights Centre in Geneva

On Wednesday, 10 July, at the Palais des Nations, Eskender Bariiev, Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre, member of  Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, participated in the opening of the Human Rights Hub of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Geneva under the title “Promoting the Rule of Law: Strengthening the Agenda for Freedom”, an initiative aimed at fostering cooperation and innovation among professionals who are dedicated to the promotion of democracy and human rights.

The purpose of the Human Rights Hub is to support partner organisations and representatives in their important human rights work in UN bodies.

The event was addressed by Ann Brasseur, Member of the Board of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and former President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The keynote speech was delivered by Dr Marco Buschmann, Minister of Justice of Germany, and former President of the International Criminal Court Peter Hofmanski participated in the session.

The event provided a dynamic environment within which suggest to exchange ideas, form partnerships and develop effective strategies to advance human rights.

In particular, Eskender Bariiev, Chairman of the CTRC Board, met with the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Russian Federation, Mariana Katsarova. They discussed with her co-operation on the protection of political prisoners of Crimea on the territory of Russia.
