Eight defendants in the Crimean Bridge bombing case recognized as political prisoners of Crimea

Eight men accused of blowing up the Crimean Bridge in October 2022 have been recognized as political prisoners. Among them are farmers, entrepreneurs, and drivers who have been in custody for more than two years. This was reported on the Memorial website.

Eight men, including a farmer, a truck driver, and entrepreneurs, are facing criminal charges in connection with the explosion on the Crimean Bridge on October 8, 2022. They are charged under paragraph ‘b’ of part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (”Terrorist Act”), Part 4 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Illegal acquisition, transfer, storage, and transportation of an explosive device by an organized group”), and Part 3 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Smuggling of explosive devices by an organized group”),” – the statement said.

We recall that on October 8, 2022, an explosion occurred on the Crimean Bridge, as a result of which part of the road section fell into the water, and several fuel tanks caught fire. According to the official version of the Russian security forces, the explosion was carried out by an organized group consisting of eight men — citizens of Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, and Georgia. They are charged with terrorism, illegal handling of explosive devices, and smuggling of explosives.

Among those detained are Artem and Georgy Azatyan (from Armavir, Krasnodarsk region), Oleg Antipov (St. Petersburg), Alexander Bylin (Stary Oskol), Vladimir Zlob (Akmesdzhit), Roman Solomko (Kherson), Artur Terchanyan (Akhalkalaki, Georgia), and Dmitry Tyazhelov (Lipetsk). All of them have been in custody since October 2022 and face life imprisonment.
