Because of the terrorist attack at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, the water supply of Crimea will be restored only next summer. This was reported to Ukrhydroenerho by Ihor Syrota in a comment to CNN.
“It is clear that the Crimean Canal will be drained, there can be no water there. When Crimea is de-occupied, we will resolve the issue in a comprehensive manner – the water supply of our four regions and Crimea. I think that it will not be until next year, after the flood”,- Syrota said.
He also noted that if Crimea cannot be de-occupied before the appointed time, then the channel through which water is supplied will be blocked.
“We will provide, first of all, Kherson, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia and Mykolyiv regions. These are the regions that will now experience a shortage of water, both drinking and industrial”,- he said.
If the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir falls below three meters, this could lead to serious environmental consequences.
“We hope that the lower hydraulic structure remains intact. If so, then the level of the Kakhovka reservoir can remain within 6-7 meters. If it is damaged, water will enter the critical zone,” he added.
