CTRC begins cooperation with Ukrainian business to decolonize the toponymy of Crimea

November 15, 2023

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center begins cooperation with Ukrainian business as part of the information campaign Return the names – return Crimea, aimed at restoring historical names on the peninsula.

The CTRC has repeatedly noted the importance of restoring historical toponymy in Crimea. Indeed, the policy of large-scale renaming of various geographical names on the peninsula dealt a huge blow to the indigenous peoples of Ukraine and to Ukraine itself.

The occupiers are trying with all their might to erase the connection between the indigenous peoples of Ukraine and the peninsula, rewrite all real history and imprint the statement that Crimea has always been Russian.

Today it is extremely important to work on restoring the historical toponymy of Crimea for our common victory!

We will gradually introduce you to each Ukrainian business that has joined our campaign, and today we will tell you about the Crimean Yard cafe.

The establishment was created in 2018 in Irpin, and on September 25, 2023, it opened its doors in Lviv at 9 Jan Zizka Street. On the territory of the cafe there is an amateur Museum of Crimean Memories, which contains exhibits from guests and friends of the cafe from all over Ukraine.

The mission of the establishment is to promote Crimea as a part of Ukraine through dishes, music of the Crimean Tatar Internet radio Canli, a museum, public events, a speaking club of the Crimean Tatar language, and the like. And now in this cafe you can see stickers with the real names of Crimean cities and QR codes for the information campaign of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center Let’s return the names – let’s return Crimea.

Thanks to Ukrainian business for their conscious position and interest in such an important topic.

We invite residents and guests of Lviv to visit the Crimean Yard to try delicious Crimean Tatar cuisine, as well as get to know the real history and toponymy of Crimea.
