Crimea’s ‘governor’ Aksyonov spoke about the proposed amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. They establish criminal liability for illegal stay of foreign citizens and stateless persons in rf.

‘The introduction of responsibility for illegal stay of foreign citizens and stateless persons on the territory of Russia into the criminal legislation of rf is primarily done in order to put pressure on Ukrainian citizens in the occupied territories. This is another step in the consistent policy of the Russian Federation to impose its own citizenship.
This is another step in the consistent policy of the Russian Federation to impose its own citizenship. After all, in this way the occupants force people to legalise in their legal field and, most importantly, to testify their position. ’ – said Korotkikh.

According to the expert, the refusal of Russian citizenship may carry the risk of prosecution.

As noted Kortkikh, such an innovation is absolutely absurd from the point of view of international law and general principles of migration relations. After all, for violation of the rules of stay in a foreign country, a person should be forcibly returned to the country of origin or forcibly expelled.
