The occupation Kyiv district “court” of Akmesdzhit (Simferopol) upheld the decision to fine lawyer Emil Kurbedinov 30 thousand rubles for the publication in his Telegram channel “KEM volost” about the illegal summoning of students with deferment to the military recruitment centre. This is reported by “Crimean solidarity” public association.
“In the appeal instance again all my arguments and my defenders were ignored. In addition, when drawing up the administrative protocol and during the court session itself, the decision of the first instance violated the norms of national law. Also in all this administrative prosecution of me as a lawyer, the international law was violated, including that concerning the protection of the rights of lawyers to disseminate information of public importance and not to prosecute them for such activities, absolutely legitimate activities”, – said the lawyer.
He noted that he did not agree with the decision of the “court” and will appeal the decision, probably in the court of cassation, and in the future – in the international court.
We would like to remind that Emil Kurbedinov is a lawyer and acts as a defence lawyer for illegally convicted Crimean Tatars and other residents of Crimea.
On 15 February 2024, lawyer Emil Kurbedinov was detained near the FSB building in the occupied Crimea. The lawyer’s wife, Diana Kurbedinova, testified that he was taken away by law enforcers when he was leaving an investigation. It is known that Kurbedinov was released and a report was drawn up on him under Part 9, Article 13.15 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation (“Abuse of freedom of mass information”). It turned out that the lawyer was detained for a comment in Telegram, written on 14 July 2023.
