Residents of Crimea are lured to serve in the illegal armed formation of the DPR. This was announced by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Dmitry Lubynets.
Volunteers are told that they will not be involved in fighting, but allegedly only to control the new occupied territories of the Donbas.
“In ads on Crimean websites, men are promised high salaries, free food and housing, medical care and annual leave. However, one should not forget what the word of the aggressor country is worth”,- he said.
As the Ombudsman noted, the occupiers are trying to create a picture of the voluntariness of Ukrainian citizens joining the Russian army in the SMO, which is a violation of the 4th Geneva Convention and a war crime in accordance with the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
“There is evidence that the Russian Federation is using Ukrainians from Crimea in a full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine, whom it has attracted either under a contract or as a call for military service. Confirmation of the participation of the Crimeans in the hostilities is the information about the captured and dead soldiers from the Crimea”,- said Lubinets.
