It is known that the Crimean political prisoner is under strict conditions of detention (SCD) since November 2024. Previously, he was held on the second floor, where part of the room was out of view of surveillance cameras, so Muslims could pray. But in December, the SCD was moved to the first floor, where Muslim prisoners are still being held.
“For a while we could still pray there, and then they started throwing us into the SHIZO en masse,” the lawyer said.
Bekirov appealed the punishment of being placed in a punitive isolation cell for praying, but the court ruled that he had violated the daily schedule. After that, the SCD installed a second surveillance camera to completely eliminate blind spots.
“If before he was sent to the SHIZO for namaz standing up, now – even if he reads it sitting down. He is not allowed to pray at all,” – said the wife of political prisoner Khalide Bekirova.
According to the lawyer, the last time Remzi came out of the SHIZO on April 24 – on the eve of his visit.
Increased pressure on the Crimean Tatar began after his transfer to the penal colony in CC-33. He was repeatedly punished with isolation for formal violations – for praying at night on a towel, for not greeting a colony worker or for refusing to wear a hat.
“Now the most important thing for him is to fight for the right to freely practice his religion,” – said the lawyer.
We will remind, on March 27, 2019, Russian security forces in the occupied Crimea conducted searches in 26 houses of Crimean Tatars. As a result, 20 people were detained on suspicion of involvement in the activities of “Hizb ut-Tahrir” organization banned in rf. In this regard, the arrests of political prisoners were repeatedly extended, and some of them have already been sentenced. Thus, the Russian court sentenced Remzi Bekirov to 19 years in prison. He must serve the first five years in prison, and the rest – in a strict regime colony with a restriction of 1 year 6 months.
