Crimean birth rate has been declining for the last 10 years

July 2, 2024

This is reported by the occupation body of the Crimean statistics.

If in 2014, 24 thousand newborns were registered, in 2023 – only 15.8 thousand.
“Mortality in the peninsula is the peak in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. In 2023, mortality in Crimea has returned to pre-COVID numbers, but it is more than double the birth rate.” – The occupation agency said in a statement.

The Department added that if 10 years ago the natural increase in population – the difference between birth and death – was minus 4.4 thousand per year, now – minus 10.6 thousand.  The population of Crimea annually decreases so much for natural reasons.

Mortality in the current year began to grow: for the first 4 months of 2024 in Crimea died 9.4 thousand people – this is 6.5% more than in the same period last year.

The occupation authorities added that the mortality rate in Crimea is growing “without apparent reasons”.
