Crimea tightens regime of conscription campaign – activists

October 10, 2024
The military conscription campaign is being tightened in the occupied Crimea. This was reported to the correspondent of ‘Krym.Realia’ by representatives of the international movement #LiberateCrimea.
‘Our sources from Russian military commissions in Crimea report that city and district military commissions in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been instructed to identify evaders and initiate criminal proceedings against them in order to then ‘persuade’ them within the framework of a pre-trial agreement to sign a contract with the Defence Ministry of the Russian Federation to serve in the zone of the so-called ‘SMO’. The relevant legislative framework was signed by the russian president on 2 October 2024. The reasons are clear – there are fewer and fewer Crimeans willing to fight against Ukraine,’ the activists said.
They also note, the Russian military commissions have been tasked to call up more men within the current draft campaign due to the increase in the total number of the rf Armed Forces.
‘Our sources have learnt that at the republican meeting of Crimean military commissions with the participation of law enforcers, they were instructed to strengthen control over recruitment medical commissions, as there are many signals about the corruption of these structures. For example, in Sudak a major, a big guy under two metres, the son of a tax officer, brags that he has solved the medical commission and got a white ticket. And there are a lot of such examples. The past Russian military commander of Crimea Yuriy Lymar in 2022 was caught on this very thing, but corruption in this sphere remains – only the cost of ‘white tickets’ has increased,’ – the activists said.
