A year ago, on April 29, Russian security forces searched the house of civilian journalist Iryna Danylovych, after which the woman was detained.
On December 28, 2022, the illegal occupational court in Feodosiia issued a sentence against civilian journalist and medical worker Iryna Danylovych: seven years in prison and a fine of 50,000 Russian rubles.
The occupational court accused Ukrainian citizen Iryna Danylovych of illegal possession of explosives or explosive devices (Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
As always, the accusations were based on the material evidence planted by law enforcement officers during the search, the testimony of hidden witnesses, the conclusions of the so-called experts, who are completely dependent on the Russian occupiers. But the main thing is that the case itself is a gross violation of the norms of international law, which prohibits the application of occupation legislation in the occupied territories.
Moreover, the health of Iryna Danylovych has deteriorated significantly over the year she has been in prison.
During this time, she suffered a minor stroke in custody and constantly demanded that the occupational administration of the pre-trial detention center provide her with the necessary medical assistance. Now Iryna has actually lost her hearing, which does not allow her to get acquainted with the content of the audio files contained in the case as evidence of her guilt. At the same time, she is required to complete her acquaintance with the materials of this case as soon as possible, despite the state of her health.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center constantly and systematically covers issues related to the illegal detention of citizens of Ukraine by the occupying authorities, and notes that all responsibility for the life and health of illegally detained and convicted citizens of Ukraine in places of deprivation of liberty in the temporarily occupied territories lies solely with Russia, as a state-aggressor.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center requires the occupying authorities to provide the necessary medical assistance to Iryna Danylovych and other illegally detained and convicted persons in places of detention. We also appeal to the Ukrainian authorities and the international community to intensify efforts to find real mechanisms for the release of political prisoners held in Russia and in the temporarily occupied territories, in particular with the involvement of foreign and international institutions.
