Aziz Akhtemov was transferred to the Russian Federation

November 30, 2023

Political prisoner Aziz Akhtemov was transferred to the Russian Federation. His wife Adile Akhtemova reported this to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.

“My husband Akhtemov Aziz was taken from Crimea to the stage on October 2. On November 10, I received a letter from my husband saying that he had arrived at the Yeniseisk prison. He reported that he was given warm winter clothes. Upon arrival in Yeniseisk, it was -20 below zero. He said that the path from Saratov to Chelyabinsk and even to Krasnoyarsk itself was very cold, he was freezing, since there was no clothing that was supposed to be suitable for this climate. He began to put on all his clothes, including outerwear, but this was not enough, since Aziz did not have warm shoes and a jacket with him, he only had a vest. Also, almost a few days after leaving Crimea, he ran out of food. Aziz was given dry rations, which he could not eat, since they all contained pork. Therefore, his path was not easy”,- she said.

Adile noted that Aziz misses Crimea, his family and friends, lives with faith and hope that he will soon return to his homeland. There is no information about ill-treatment, but the reason for its absence may be that the spouses communicate only through official letters from Zonatelecom.

“Most likely, even if there was bad treatment, he will not be able to write about it through an official letter, since it is censored. … Until a lawyer or one of his defenders comes to see him personally and confidentially, I cannot say that everything is fine with Aziz”,- she explained.

We remind you that on September 21, 2022, in the Supreme Court of Crimea Nariman Dzhelyalov was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraphs a, b of Part 2 of Art. 281 (committing sabotage by an organized group, resulting in significant property damage), Part 4 of Art. 222.1 (illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of explosive devices committed by an organized group), Part 4 of Art. 222.1 (illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of explosive devices committed by an organized group), Part 3 of Art. 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal transportation of an explosive device across the customs border of the Customs Union within the EurAsEC, committed by an organized group) and imposed a sentence of imprisonment for a term of 17 years, a fine of 700 thousand rubles and restriction of freedom for 1.5 years.

Asan Akhtemov was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraphs a, b of Part 2 of Art. 281 (committing sabotage by an organized group, resulting in significant property damage), Part 4 of Art. 222.1 (illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of explosive devices committed by an organized group), Part 3 of Art. 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal transportation of an explosive device across the customs border of the Customs Union within the EurAsEC, committed by an organized group) and imposed a sentence of imprisonment for a term of 15 years, a fine of 500 thousand rubles and restriction of freedom for a period of 1 year.

The prosecution in this case is based on the testimony of Asan and Aziz Akhtemov, which was obtained by FSB officers as a result of torture. The activists are accused of committing sabotage on a gas pipeline in the village of Perevalne on August 23, 2021. In fact, the real reason for the persecution is the participation of Nariman Dzhelyalov in the founding Summit of the Crimean Platform on August 23, 2021.
