After the occupation of Crimea in 2014, the Russian Federation continues the practice of its predecessors and is engaged in the destruction of historical toponyms on the peninsula and the renaming of various streets, squares, institutions in honor of the so-called Russian heroes.
For example, in December 2022 in Simferopol, the streets in three microdistricts received the names of Crimeans – heroes of a special military operation. The following addresses appeared in the city:
Defenders of the Fatherland;
Maxim Dzyubin;
Viktor Gudkov;
Vladislav Dorokhin;
Maxim Starovoitov.
Moreover, in 2019, the occupants discussed the idea of renaming the peninsula into Tavrida. The Russians believed that the renaming of Crimea would be an additional motive for asserting its Russian status. However, this initiative remained at the level of discussion.
The occupiers are trying with all their might to erase the connection of the indigenous peoples of Crimea with the peninsula, rewrite the entire real history and strengthen the assertion that Crimea has always been Russian.
Today it is important to work on the restoration of the historical toponymy of Crimea for the sake of our common victory!
We use only the correct names on victory cards!
