The Crimean Tatar Resource Center has launched an information-board campaign throughout Ukraine dedicated to the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, which is traditionally celebrated on August 9.
As a reminder, the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is celebrated every year on August 9. It was established by a resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1994. There are about 437 million indigenous people living in 90 countries around the world.
There are three indigenous peoples in Ukraine: Crimean Tatars, Karaites and Krymchaks. We have to understand that our wealth is in our diversity, but unfortunately, the indigenous peoples have been living in an interstate conflict for nine years already. Moreover, the homeland of the indigenous peoples – the Crimean Peninsula and the waters of the Azov and Black Seas – is being used by Russia as a springboard for military equipment and bombing of Ukraine.
It is crucial for all Ukrainian citizens to be informed about the indigenous peoples of Ukraine and to understand that we have one homeland and one goal – to live in a free, united and independent Ukraine.
You can see the posters in Kyiv on the photos below. Later, similar boards will be displayed in other cities of Ukraine (Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Rivne, Lviv, Kropyvnytskyi, and others).
The posters were designed by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, activists of the international movement for the deoccupation of Crimea and solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people #LIBERATECRIMEA and Ukrainian artist Andrii Yermolenko.
