Supported by: Open Society Foundations

Our goal is to attract the attention of the international community to the problem of the occupation of Crimea with the help of the international advocacy campaign for the de-occupation of Crimea “LIBERATECRIMEA”:

This project can be conditionally divided into 2 directions:

– “The introduction of personal sanctions against individuals involved in the violation of human rights in Crimea on the example of Magnitsky’s expanded law”. There are sectoral sanctions related to Crimea, but there are no personal sanctions against people involved in the violation of human rights in the occupied Crimea. Currently, three European Union member states (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia), the UK and Canada have their own analogous laws  to the American “Magnitsky Global Law on Accountability in the Field of Human Rights”, they differ in the type of sanctions imposed and their duration, but similar in that they target people related to human rights violations in their country. As part of the implementation of this project, it is planned to carry out advocacy activities for the adoption of analogous laws of the “Magnitsky Global Law” in European states with the involvement of diplomats from countries that have analogous laws to the Magnitsky Act to impose personal sanctions on individuals involved in human rights violations in the occupied Crimea;

– “International public events”, exhibitions, performances, flash mobs, side events, speeches at plenary meetings of the UN, OSCE, EU, PACE, etc. with the aim of informing the international community about mass violations of international law in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea and attracting attention of the UN special rapporteurs and other influential individuals from international organizations to the issue of Crimea.
