A resident of Akyar (Sevastopol) sentenced to 15 years for participation in rf military forces

A citizen of Ukraine, who fought in the ranks of the occupation troops of the Russian Federation against the Armed Forces of Ukraine, will spend 15 years behind bars. This was reported by the press service of the Zaporizhzhya regional Prosecutor’s office.

“On the public accusation of prosecutors of Zaporizhzhya regional Prosecutor’s office a citizen of Ukraine was found guilty of high treason (part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property”, – is stated in the message.

The investigation found that the resident of Akyar (Sevastopol), who was serving a sentence for robbery in a colony in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, signed a contract with the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation. In exchange for having his criminal record expunged, he joined the army of the aggressor country and was given a position as a gunner in the Storm Z battalion of the 56th Airborne Assault Regiment. He was sent to the Zaporizhzhya direction, where he was engaged in evacuating wounded Russian military personnel, setting up firing positions and participating in combat operations.

In February 2024, during the fighting near the village of Verbovoe in Polohovsky district, AFU servicemen captured him and handed him over to law enforcers. Pre-trial investigation on this case was conducted by investigators of the SBU Department in Zaporizhzhya region.

We would like to remind that in 2022 the Crimean Tatar Resource Center launched the campaign “Mogilization”, aimed at combating the forced mobilization of residents of the temporarily occupied territories into the ranks of the Russian army. The campaign explains that forced mobilization is a war crime and threatens either death on the battlefield or captivity and imprisonment. As part of this initiative, the CTRC provides advice on how to avoid illegal conscription.

We urge residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine not to become a tool in the hands of the invaders, because participation in the war on the side of the Russian Federation inevitably leads to tragic consequences.
