A petition has appeared in Ukraine to restore historical names in Crimea

November 1, 2023

A petition has appeared on the website of the President of Ukraine to return the historical names of settlements in occupied Crimea.

The author of the petition cited the publication of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, which talks about the importance of restoring toponyms on the peninsula.

We would like to remind you that the CTRC actually launched the Return the names – return Crimea campaign last year, within the framework of which it repeatedly emphasized that right now we should work on restoring the historical names of Crimea in order to:

– preserve the history, culture and language of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine with their homeland – Crimea;

— demonstrate that Crimea is a Ukrainian peninsula, because whatever names appear on Ukrainian cartography, the same names will appear on international maps;

— get rid of everything Russian as much as possible and continue decolonization, decommunization and de-Russification of Ukraine as a whole.

We are very glad that our work does not remain unnoticed and has such support among the residents of Ukraine.
