September 14, 2023

On Tuesday, September 12, a regular meeting of the Expert Council at the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea was held.

The meeting was attended by employees of the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, members of the Expert Council: members of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, public figures, lawyers, scientists and others.

4 issues were discussed:

— international summit of the Crimean Platform 2023, results and prospects

— the vision of the members of the expert council for further activities related to the Crimean issue, possible areas of interaction with the Mission

— plans of the Mission until the end of 2023, which are identified as priorities

— miscellaneous from the leadership of the Mission of the members of the Expert Council.

Member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, coordinator of the working group of the Expert Network of the Crimean Platform Restoring the rights of indigenous peoples of Ukraine – as a tool for the de-occupation of Crimea Eskender Bariiev thanked everyone who was involved in the organization of the third government summit of the Crimean Platform, but at the same time drew attention for some shortcomings.

“If we want to improve or strengthen the work of the Crimean Platform in the future, then here we, of course, need to create, firstly, all the conditions for further development. If we take the expert level, then on the eve of the summit an event was held in which only one international expert was present, who was invited by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center. Therefore, it is necessary to create and develop the necessary tools so that international experts are more involved in the work of the expert network of the Crimean Platform”,- Bariiev emphasized.

The Head of the Board of the CTRC believes that the expert network of the Crimean Platform should pay more attention to the formation of analytical products that would be necessary both for representatives of the Ukrainian authorities and for representatives of the authorities of the countries participating in the Crimean Platform.

“The process of reintegration of Crimea will take quite a long time, and this process cannot be successful without the allies and friends of Ukraine. Therefore, today we must think about the fact that after the de-occupation of Crimea, the Crimean Platform will have to actively continue its work effectively. For more effective work, today it is necessary to work through the process of institutionalizing the Crimean Platform so that the system of interaction at all levels is clearly established, as well as so that there are permanent coordinating bodies of the Crimean Platform that could systematically work in this direction”,- explained Eskender Bariiev.

The expert emphasized that if we are talking about the expert network of the Crimean Platform, then it is necessary to develop internal policies, starting from the mission, and then clearly define the strategy, vision, regulations, and mechanism for submitting research.

“It is very important that the work of the expert network of the Crimean Platform be more significant for government officials of both Ukraine and the participating countries of the Crimean Platform”,- he concluded.
