A court in Moscow arrested a lawyer in absentia for spreading fake news about the Russian army

On February 14, the Gagarin Court of Moscow, at the request of the investigation, arrested former lawyer Ilya Novikov in absentia.

The reason for the arrest in absentia was the lawyer’s statements in one of his interviews. According to the department, Novikov after the start of a special military operation, voluntarily left the territory of Russia, joined the ranks of the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine and is still participating in their activities, namely: he underwent military training, participates in hostilities, and is engaged in propaganda work.

Novikov was also recognized as a so-called foreign agent.

Now the lawyer has been charged under Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Dissemination of knowingly false information about the Russian Armed Forces). He was arrested in absentia for two months and put on the international wanted list.
