In the occupied Crimea, 20-year-old Crimean Tatar Appaz Kurtamet was kidnapped. For almost a month, his whereabouts have been unknown.

According to the Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, Appaz Kurtamet lives in the village of Novooleksiivka of Henichesk district of Kherson region. On July 23, 2022, he went from the village of Novooleksiivka, Henichesk district, Kherson region, to Crimea, to visit relatives.

It is known that he arrived at the Chonhar checkpoint, which continues to operate from the Crimean side of the administrative line between the occupied Crimea and the Kherson region. After that, Appaz Kurtamet's connection with his relatives was interrupted.

On July 24, an unknown person called the young man's mother and told her (supposedly at Appaz's request) that her son had been detained while passing through document control at the Chonhar checkpoint.
