Who is leaving the occupied Crimea?

August 11, 2022

After the explosions in the village of Novofedorivka in the occupied Crimea, people began to leave the peninsula en masse. Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of Legal Affairs and Foreign Affairs of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev in an interview with Channel 5 told who was leaving Crimea.

There are four categories of people are actively leaving Crimea. Among them are vacationers who moved to Crimea for permanent residence, Russians who support Russia's war against Ukraine, and Ukrainians who worry that their children will not fall into the ranks of the Russian army.

“They came to rest, they began to actively leave not only from the Saky region, but also from other regions of Crimea. They panic, and in my opinion, this is good. They must understand that they illegally arrived in Crimea. This year there are very few vacationers compared to other years, because the logistics are broken – there are no planes to Crimea. They come either by car or by rail across the Kerch Bridge”,- Bariiev said.
