June 21, 2022

On Tuesday, June 21, at the Ukrinform news agency, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience of Ukraine and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people held a press conference as part of the information campaign #LIBERATECRIMEA: Two Flags – One Country, dedicated to the Day of the Crimean Tatar flag.

Speakers were:

Eskender Bariiev – Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, head of the Department for Legal Affairs and Foreign Affairs of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people;

Olena Bohdan – Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience;

Refat Chubarov – Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people;

Akhtem Seitablaiev – Film director;

Andrii Yermolenko – Artist;

Tetiana Podvorniak – communications manager of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.

Eskender Bariiev in his speech spoke about the history of the Crimean Tatar flag. The expert informed how this day is celebrated at the national and international levels, as well as about the campaign "United by the flag – #LIBERATECRIMEA", in which the Crimean Tatar flag visited 28 countries of the world for 9 months.

“Today, the Crimean Tatar flag has become a symbol of the struggle for the liberation of the temporarily occupied Crimea and the restoration of the integrity of Ukraine. Diplomats, politicians, public figures, and the Ukrainian people show their respect for the Crimean Tatar flag. We are all sure that despite the difficulties, our flags will soon be proudly flying in the free Ukrainian Crimea”,- Bariiev said.

Refat Chubarov stressed that the Crimean Tatar banner has become a real symbol of the struggle. According to him, love and respect for the national flag unites the nation, linking the achievement of new generations of Crimean Tatars with the courage and deeds of glorious predecessors.

Elena Bohdan in her speech emphasized the importance of uniting the Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian peoples in one country under two flags.

“Today, the Crimean Tatar banner embodies a lot of meanings for all of us – it is the spirit of disobedience and the desire to be free in our native land; it is the spirit of rebirth after the brutal attempts at extermination undertaken by the repressive Soviet regime; it is a spirit of hope and bold steps in defense of justice, freedom and home”,- she said.

Akhtem Seitablaiev noted the importance of the Day of the Crimean Tatar flag, especially in the context of a full-scale war. After all, this flag is a symbol of struggle, freedom, and it should be important for every citizen of Ukraine.

As part of the event, Tetiana Podvorniak presented visual information content prepared by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center for the Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag as part of the #LIBERATECRIMEA information campaign: test, posters, board campaign.

“All our visual information products are aimed at ensuring that the Ukrainian society has the best possible knowledge of the history of the emergence of the Crimean Tatar flag, and also understands why it is important to have such information. In addition, it is with the help of our visual products that we strive to achieve an even greater unification of the two peoples within one state. Therefore, we call on all those who are not indifferent to participate in our activities”,- she said.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center systematically prepares visual materials dedicated to various important dates. A large number of activists are working on ideas for posters, and they get their professional look thanks to the artist Andrey Ermolenko.

“Seeing once is better than hearing 100 times. One photograph from Bucha, Mariupol, Kharkiv, Sievierodonetsk can tell 100 times more than documented testimony! To convey the truth during the war, to give hope, to maintain morale – this is the main task of the artist in the war, if you have not picked up a machine gun!”,- he stressed.

We remind you that earlier the Crimean Tatar Resource Center presented a new information campaign #LIBERATECRIMEA, which is designed to raise the level of awareness of the population of Ukraine about the situation in the occupied Crimea.
