Why is the 1944 Deportation a genocide of the Crimean Tatar people?

On May 18, 2022, we marked the 78th anniversary of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people. On this day, the whole world honors the memory of the victims of this terrible crime and expresses its solidarity with the Crimean Tatars living on the territory of Ukraine and beyond.

But why is the deportation of 1944 a genocide of the Crimean Tatar people?

The purpose of this criminal act was precisely the destruction of an entire nation. In total, 238.5 thousand people were deported from Crimea, 46.2% died in the first years of deportation. In addition, the Soviet authorities did everything to destroy the language, culture, history and traditions of the Crimean Tatar people.
