Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of Legal Affairs and Foreign Affairs of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev said in an interview with the LRT.lt media agency that a large number of armed formations are concentrated in the occupied Crimea.
“Today Crimea has become the main base of Russian aggression against Ukraine. A large number of armed formations are concentrated here, so a significant amount of military equipment is sent from the Crimea. This worries us greatly. We are conducting explanatory work among our people, we urge them not to conclude military contracts”,- he explained.
In addition, Bariiev noted that one of the main problems for the Crimeans today is the possibility of being drafted into the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Since 2016, the occupiers have been conscripting for military service all young people who reach the age of eighteen. There are cases when people tried somehow to evade the service, they received administrative fines, criminal cases were opened against them. Now Russia has an urgent need for people and there are already cases when they send Crimean conscripts to the war against Ukraine. They also send contractors. There is severe unemployment in Crimea, especially in rural areas, so for many people contract service is the only way to earn money.
