On Friday, April 15, it was recorded that in Simferopol, occupied Crimea, the Salhyr River overflowed its banks and flooded the Embankment and Haharin Park. The reasons for this phenomenon are explained by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.
Why did Salhyr overflow its banks?
This is a common natural phenomenon. You need to understand that during this period the snow melts on the peaks of the Crimean mountains. And since the Salhyr is the largest river in Crimea, water is collected from all mountain rivers in it. And also, in addition to the melting of snow, now there is quite heavy rainfall, which is why we see that the water has just overflowed its banks. Similar events have happened in the past in the same period of time. By summer, the water in Salhyr will decrease.
Is this a consequence of the launch of Dnieper water through the North Crimean Canal?
No, it's not related in any way. These are natural processes. If we talk about the fact that they began to supply Dnieper water, then perhaps the consumption of water from the reservoirs has decreased, but this does not affect the filling of Salhyr. That is, these are purely natural processes associated with the melting of snow in the mountains and heavy rainfall.
Is this water usable?
Definitely any water can be treated, both chemical and physical. For this, there are special services and special competent authorities that can use water for further needs.
